Platform Engineer mock test

A platform engineer builds and runs the shared infrastructure that product teams deploy onto: the Kubernetes clusters, the delivery pipelines and the tooling around them. The aim is that an application team can ship safely and often without having to understand every layer underneath.
Most platform teams today run Kubernetes on one or more clouds, describe their infrastructure in code, and treat the platform as a product with internal users, measured by how quickly and safely those users can release.
What you will do
- Design, operate and upgrade Kubernetes clusters, including networking, ingress, storage and resource management.
- Describe cloud and cluster infrastructure in code with Terraform or a similar tool, and keep it reviewed and reproducible.
- Build and maintain CI/CD and GitOps delivery (for example GitHub Actions, GitLab CI or Argo CD) so teams can deploy without hand-holding.
- Write configuration management, such as Ansible roles, for the hosts and services that sit outside the cluster.
- Set up monitoring and alerting, take part in incident response and postmortems, and fix the causes you find.
- Work with application, data and security teams to make the secure, reliable path the default one.
What we look for
- Several years in a platform, DevOps, SRE or infrastructure role.
- A working understanding of Kubernetes internals: the control plane and etcd, Services, DNS, network policies and ingress controllers.
- Hands-on experience with infrastructure as code (Terraform, Pulumi or CloudFormation) and with at least one major cloud.
- Solid Linux and networking fundamentals, and the habit of debugging from evidence rather than guessing.
- Scripting or programming in Python, Go or Bash for automation and internal tools.
Nice to have
- Multi-cluster setups, service meshes or overlay networking.
- Kubernetes security practice: RBAC, secrets management, pod security standards.
- SLOs and error budgets, Helm or Kustomize, and operating stateful systems such as Kafka.
About this mock test
One hour on a real Linux machine, in a terminal in your browser. You fix a Kubernetes networking problem and a broken Ansible role, then answer short written questions on infrastructure as code, etcd, resource requests and limits, and ingress.
This is practice. There is no job at the end of it. It is the same interview format employers run on EasyEnv, so you can measure yourself against what companies hiring for this role ask for, and see where you need more work.
Applying needs a free EasyEnv account, so the company knows who applied and you can follow your application. The interview runs on a real machine, so it needs a desktop browser.
