What is React?

Welcome. If you have never written a line of JavaScript and you are not sure what a "framework" is, you are in the right place. By the end of this lesson you will know what React is, you will have a small React project running in your browser, and you will have edited your first component. That is the whole job. We are not in a rush.

A note before we start: React is a JavaScript library, which means we assume you can read basic JavaScript (variables, functions, returning a value). If function add(a, b) { return a + b } does not look like total nonsense to you, you are ready. If it does, take the JavaScript chapter of any beginner tutorial first and come back. That hour will save you a week.
