Every program you have written so far has lived inside func main(). That works for a dozen lines, but real programs need to compute the same thing in more than one place: validate an age, format a price, check whether a number is even. Copying and pasting the same three lines everywhere is how a small bug turns into ten bugs, one in each copy.
